Christmas means Something Different This Year

It may be the hormones talking, but I have a much more sentimental outlook on Christmas this year than I have previously. Yes, Christmas is intended to be about spending time with family and friends, but we all spend more time than we would like to admit trying to find the perfect gift for everyone on our list, and not enough time really getting to enjoy the time we have together.

This week has really driven that point home for me as I spent multiple days, and more hours than I would like to admit, sitting in local hospitals with family undergoing a variety of tests. Fortunately all of my time in the hospital was purely for support, and none of the stress sent me into an early labour.

Already being sick myself, germ infested hospitals are not an ideal place to spend your days at any point in time, and definitely not this far along in a pregnancy. Am I glad I went and was able to spend time with family before the holidays, even if the circumstances were less than ideal? Absolutely!

Although it was not under the best circumstances, this week has reminded me of how fortunate I am to have family who will be healthy and nearby for the holidays. I think the events of the week have been a good reminder that Christmas should be about spending time together, taking a few too many pictures, and being thankful that we are healthy enough to enjoy it.

My plan for the next 10 days is to spend less time worrying about ‘last minute shopping’ and perfecting my wrapping skills, and more time enjoying some cheesy Christmas movies, and taking advantage of our last Christmas as a family of 2.
